I don't believe that your car can do 0-60 in ~5 sec! Show me some video after you will repair it! _________________ DKfab |

I'll have to do it again - I wouldn't have a clue
That bloke turned up this evening and he seems a very canny chap, he was here for about two hours and we variously played with the car.
Unfortunately, he thought I'd have a spark plug wrench. As mine has gone the journey when I moved house, we couldn't do the compression test. He's gonna come back this weekend and we'll do it then - helpful bloke!
He seems fairly confident it's goosed valves - they appear to have finally given up what grip they had cos it now turns over very quickly and sounds p*ssweak. Much as I'd prefer to save the money, I'm now resigning meself to how well knackered valves explain what it's been doing and finding out how to fix them well without spending a fortune.
I have the advantage that I can work from home and everybody I know has cars (apart from me grandma, which doesn't help). I want to do it fairly quickly cos there's three of us dependant on it here, but I guess if I'm gonna have the head off I should take advantage of that opportunity.
I do at least feel more like there's a light at the end of the tunnel and I'm still well up for fixing it. So, I'll have the compression test results here on saturday (or possibly sunday) and after that I'll probably be grateful for any advice on valve replacing. This link is interesting if you have a 200SX @'91-'92

I had never really thought about it, but I have had a look at recorded 0-60 times and it does seem like someone may have been yanking my chain. I'll have to fix it and have a retest! _________________ Luke |

WAHEY!!!!! IT'S FIXED!!!!!
It's been a challenge and I've been living in the car or with my only friends whose houses I can get into for the past three and a bit months because my girlfriend went crazy (long story) and her son had exams to finish. But now they're both gone, I have my life back and the car's fixed.
It was the intake valves. Check out
http://www.sxoc.com/vbb/showthread.php?t=133265
for details of that fault - Nissan have produced better inlet valves (they're the problem).
I found some very helpful people who live fairly near me on sxoc.com. Even the bloke who I got to take it on a flatloader to their garage and back (as it was untaxed and unMOTd by then) was very helpful and only charged me £70 to take it about 20 miles to sunderland and back again a few days later.
So the full bill went;
Transporter costs £70
Gasket set £70
Head bolts £5
Replacement head that one of those people had spare £100
Labour £250
And I think that's about it. Seems very reasonable to me in exchange for the car they gave back to me. I'm sure it's quicker than it was when I first got it (and this encourages my belief that the bloke who I bought it from knew what was starting to happen).
All their details are here;

Watch out for that valves issue if you have an S13 but most of all, for the sake of whichever deity you prefer, if you ever see one of these cars in trouble, fix it and it will make you smile.
Many thanks for your input. I'm going to take the car to a drag strip in York in a few months, and if you leave this here I'll tell you what that tells me. Gan canny

What was wrong with valves, and how did you find that out? There's not much info about this in those threads
Glad you got it fixed _________________ S13 chip-tuning, ECU regulēšana.
